The Importance of Organization
Before we jump into the details, let’s take a moment to appreciate why having an organized needlework space is so important.
Picture this: you’re in the zone, stitching away on a beautiful embroidery piece when suddenly…you can’t find your thimble! Talk about a creativity killer!
By keeping your needlework notions and tools organized, you’ll save time, reduce frustration, and be able to fully immerse yourself in your project.
Decluttering: Out with the Old!
The first step towards organization bliss is decluttering. Take a good look at your current stash of needlework supplies and ask yourself: Do I really need all these half-empty thread spools from 10 years ago? If that’s me then the answer is yes I do!
But I had to figure out how to organize them, large glass jar to the rescue!

Along with keeping what you love, it’s time to let go of what no longer serves you. Sort through your threads, fabrics, hoops, and other supplies, and get rid of anything that’s damaged or that you haven’t used in ages.

Like Things Together
Now that you’ve decluttered, it’s time to categorize your remaining treasures. Start by grouping similar items together.
For example, create separate sections for embroidery floss, needles, scissors, hoops, and other essentials. You can use small storage containers or drawer dividers to keep everything neat and tidy. Label each section to make it even easier to find what you need when inspiration strikes!
I’m using two vintage wooden sewing boxes for a bunch of stuff. The blue is for sewing and embroidery and the pink is for knitting and crochet.

The Magic of Clear Containers
When it comes to storing your needlework notions and tools, clear containers are your best friends. Not only do they allow you to easily see what’s inside, but they also add a touch of aesthetic appeal to your workspace.
Invest in some clear plastic bins or glass jars with lids to store your threads, beads, buttons, and other small items.

You can use mason jars or if you’re like me and love Bonne Maman Marmalade you can use their pretty jars. Trust me, the satisfaction of seeing all your bits and bobs stored neatly in pretty jars is the best!

Portable Organization: On-the-Go Stitching
As needlework enthusiasts, we know that inspiration can strike anywhere, whether we’re waiting at the doctor’s office or enjoying a coffee at our favorite café. That’s why it’s essential to have portable organization solutions. Consider investing in a stylish project bag or a compact sewing kit that you can easily take with you wherever you go. This way, you’ll always be ready to stitch up a storm whenever creativity calls!
I use makeup bags, it seems every time I pick up a Lancome lipstick it comes with a bunch of samples in a cute makeup bag. I can’t throw them out (too cute) so I use them for small projects. I put everything I need for that project, scissors, thread, beeswax etc. right into the bag so I can pick it up and start stitching! No need to collect everything I need every time I work on a particular something.
Get Creative with Display
Who says organizing your needlework supplies has to be boring? Let’s get creative with how we display our tools! Hang your embroidery hoops on the wall as unique pieces of art. Use an old vintage suitcase to store your fabrics and patterns.

The possibilities are endless! By incorporating creativity into your organization system, you’ll infuse joy and inspiration into every aspect of your needlework.

Maintenance: A Little Goes a Long Way
Now that you’ve achieved organizational nirvana, it’s important to maintain it. Set aside a few minutes each week to tidy up your needlework space and put everything back in its designated spot.
This simple habit will save you from future chaos and ensure that your tools are always ready for action. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to admire your beautifully organized supplies and feel a sense of pride in your creative space.
