week 1 organize fabric

Week 1 of the 52 Week Needlework Challenge Update

Here’s how Week 1 of the 52 Week Needlework Challenge went. The first week was focused on sorting and organizing my fabric stash.

I used the Magazine Book Board method and I’m happy and relieved to say I love it and more importantly it works really well! To see how to do this method you can read the blog post here with step by steps or watch a video tutorial on my YouTube channel.

I forgot to take a before picture but this Kallax unit filled with stuff is pretty close:

Here’s the after:

All the sorting and folding was totally worth it, I emptied a few boxes and bags. The best thing is that I can now see what I actually have! And let me tell you, I found fabric that I bought and then completely forgot about.

Be sure to follow me on Instagram to see daily updates! I still have a ways to go and will be ordering more boards to help get me to the finish line.

Now for Week 2 – Getting Tools and Notions in Order!

I have tools and notions literally all over the place, in boxes, drawers, closets, you name it. And nothing takes up more valuable stitching time than searching for a misplaced tool. So I’m determined to spend the next week collecting it all and putting like things together and storing it all where I can easily and quickly find stuff.

Tall order? Yes it is but I’m done looking for something, not finding it, buying a new one and then finding the original when I wasn’t looking for it – exasperating!

So join me next week as I report how it went and what I did to get it all organized 👍🏼

I hope you enjoyed this before and after of getting my fabric organized using Magazine Boards. It’s incredible how something so simple can transform your sewing space. If you haven’t joined the 52 Week Needlework Challenge yet, click here!
