Get ready to conquer your fabric stash and achieve ultimate organization (that’s my wish anyway!) with Week 1 of the 52 Week Challenge!

I’m tackling the biggest issue I have first, organizing my piles, boxes and bags of fabric! After scouring Pinterest I’ve decided to use the Magazine & Comic Board method to get my fabric vertical and most importantly, visible.

While going through my stash I’m also picking out fabrics I know I won’t ever use and putting them my Etsy shop. This is difficult for me but I’ve had some of these fabrics for decades and never used them!

Here’s how I use archival Magazine Boards to organize and store my quilting fabric:

Step 1) Fold your fabric wrong sides together, selvage to selvage.

Step 2) Turn your fabric so it’s vertical.

Step 3) Fold your fabric down on top – my fabric is 1 yard so I’m folding down about 6″. This amount will vary depending on the length of fabric.

Step 4) Fold fabric up from the bottom – again, my fabric is 1 yard so I’m folding up around 6″.

Step 5) Place your Magazine Board’s long side along the folded edge of your fabric between the 2 folds.

Step 6) Fold up the bottom over the Magazine Board. Be sure to keep your fabric nice and smooth.

Step 7) Fold down the top fabric over the board and overlapping the bottom fabric.

Step 8) Now fold the fabric covered Magazine Board horizontally over.

Step 9) Tuck end of fabric into the pocket that was created.

You’re finished! If you’d like you can watch a video of this whole tutorial.

I hope you enjoyed this step-by-step guide on how to organize and store your fabric using Magazine Boards. It’s incredible how something so simple can transform your sewing space. If you haven’t joined the 52 Week Needlework Challenge yet, click here!
